Earthquake may negatively affect apricot exports in Malatya, the world’s apricot capital…
While two major earthquakes that occurred in Kahramanmaraş province, which is called the disaster of the century in Turkiye and affected 11 provinces, caused great damage, it was stated that apricot exports in Malatya, which is the most important centre of apricot production in the country, may also be adversely affected.
The earthquake also affected Şire Pazarı (Şire Market), where dried apricots are sold. Şire Pazarı was completely destroyed in the earthquake.
Making a statement on the subject, Malatya Chamber of Agricultural Engineers Chairperson Fevzi Çiçek said, “We evaluate this situation in two dimensions. The first dimension is very important in terms of the technical side, that is, the sustainability and continuity of production. Because most of the pesticides, fertilizers, seed dealers and workplaces that are suppliers in agricultural production. Due to the damage in the earthquake, there are problems in supply and concerns about how it will be met. We continue to work to ensure the continuity of production.”
