Turkey’s exports of pickles, which are indispensable on the table in autumn and winter, reached 300 million dollars. Turkey decorated the tables of 129 countries with pickles in 2021.
Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association Chairperson Hayrettin Uçak stated that Turkey closed the year 2020 with 277 million dollars of pickle exports and that pickle exports increased by 12 percent from 268 million dollars to 300 million dollars in the January-November period of 2021.
Sharing the knowledge that it produces pickles of over 30 vegetables and fruits, especially gherkins, peppers, cabbage, cauliflower, tomatoes, almonds, mushrooms, beets, onions, garlic and tropical fruits, in the highly modern facilities of the Turkish pickle industry and exports them to 129 countries. He also stated that there is an increase in demand for pickles during the pandemic period, as pickles strengthen the immune system in the body.
Pointing out that Turkey produces 55 million tonnes of fresh fruit and vegetables annually, Uçak said, “Pickle production ensures that the products that cannot be consumed fresh in the season in fresh fruit and vegetables are brought into the economy and boosts the added value. The Aegean Region is by far the leader in Turkey’s pickle production and export, thanks to the diversity and quality in its product patterns. Our Aegean exporters made 240 million dollars of the 300 million dollars of pickle exports we realized in the 11-month period of 2021.”
Highest demand in pickle exports is for gherkin and pickled pepper…
While pickled gherkin held the first place in Turkey’s pickle exports with an amount of 133 million 250 thousand dollars, pickled peppers showed an export performance of 132 million 860 thousand dollars.
Germany demanded Turkish pickles the most…
In the January-November period of 2021, Germany was at the top with a demand of 76 million dollars of Turkish pickles, while the Netherlands became the summit partner with a demand of 47 million dollars. Turkey exported 32 million dollars of pickles to the United States and 25 million dollars to England. As for Romania, it sent 11 million dollars of pickles.
