“PICKLE EXPORTS BREAK A RECORD THIS YEAR!”

According to the data compiled from the Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EİB), Turkey’s pickle exports in 2020 increased by 23 percent compared to the previous year, reaching 277 million from 225 million dollars. This figure has been recorded as the highest pickle export figure in the history of the country.

Sector representatives, who started this year fast, increased their pickle exports by 14 percent from 77 million 852 thousand dollars to 88 million 533 thousand dollars in the January-April period. Germany took the first place in pickle exports with 23 million 786 thousand dollars. This country was followed by the Netherlands with 13 million 953 thousand dollars and the USA with 9 million 845 thousand dollars.

In terms of variety, pickled gherkins drew attention with the highest export amount of 36 million 533 thousand dollars. In the same period, 23 million dollars of pickled peppers and 11 million dollars of mixed pickles were exported.

TARGET 300 MILLION DOLLARS!

Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association (EYMSİB) Chairperson Hayrettin Uçak stated that the demand for food products continues to go up with the effect of the epidemic. Pointing out that there was a serious rise in food exports to European countries during the epidemic, Uçak said,”One of them is pickles.”

Reminding that the upward trend in pickle exports that started in 2020 continues this year, Uçak noted, “We want to close this year with a record. Our target is to exceed 300 million dollars. We have full confidence that we will achieve this with market diversity and high value added products.”

Noting that there is a similar interest in the domestic market, Uçak added, “Aegean region has a share of approximately 70 percent in pickle production.”
