PANDEMIC SETS A RECORD FOR TABLE OLIVE EXPORTS…

200 million dollars is targeted for table olive exports…

During the pandemic period, when people stuck at home, it regained breakfast culture. The Covid-19 virus has boosted the demand for table olives that strengthen the immune system, thus a record was set in table olive exports.

Turkey has left behind the 2019/20 season by exporting olives valued at 145.7 million dollars with an increase of 3 percent. Olive exports were 141.5 million dollars last season. For the 2020-21 season, Turkey has set a target of 200 million dollars of table olive exports.

Turkey’s 2018-19 seasonal performance of 91 thousand 222 tons of table olives exports continues to maintain its position as an export record in terms of amount basis. But Turkey’s 2019/20 seasonal performance of 84 thousand 417 tons of table olive exports valued at 145.7 million dollars took its place as a new export record with the foreign exchange revenue.

On the other hand, while Turkey obtained 112 million 385 thousand dollars in return by exporting 65 thousand 802 tonnes of black olives between October 1, 2019 – September 30, 2020, green olives export realised as 18 thousand 614 tonnes providing 33 million 405 thousand dollars.

Stating that they have entered 2019-20 season as perturbed because of high raw material prices, Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TİM) Member of the Board and the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association Chairman Davut Er said, “During pandemic process people have regained the breakfast habit at home, so this situation has paved the way for a demand of table olives and olive oil.”
