While the prices in Turkey have skyrocketed, striking data on livestock and meat exports!
CHP’s (Republican People’s Party) Özgür Karabat added new ones to the claim that 2.5 million sheep and goats were sent to Qatar as carcasses, either live or slaughtered. According to Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TIM) data, in the January-February 2022 period, animal product exports amounted to 216 million dollars, with a rise of 321 percent compared to the same period of 2021.
From 2020 to 2021, animal product exports increased from 318 million dollars to 1.2 billion dollars and livestock exports increased from 38 million dollars to 107 million dollars.
Karabat said, “While there was a high price in Turkiye, animal products were sold abroad just to boost the export figures. AKP (Justice and Development Party) is exporting our limited food products while citizens cannot be fed adequately.”
Pointing out that while the 48 percent hike made by the ESK (Meat and Milk Board) for meat products and the General Manager Osman Uzun’s words “Long queues were formed, so we ramped up the prices” were discussed, CHP Istanbul Deputy Özgür Karabat added, “In addition to sending small cattle to Qatar, carcass meat exports were also carried out.”
