The target for dried apricot exports is 300 million dollars
Half of the 2020-21 season in the export of dried apricots, in which Turkey is the world leader, left behind. Turkey obtained 162 million dollars as foreign exchange earnings from exports of dried apricots in the first half of the season with a rise of 7 percent. Dried apricot exports in the first half of the 2019-20 season were 151 million 662 thousand dollars.
According to the written statement made by the Aegean Exporters’ Associations; In the 2020/21 dried apricot season, which started on August 1, 2020, there has been a decrease in dried apricot exports on the quantity basis. Turkey, during the first half of the 2020-21 season, exported 50 thousand 35 tonnes which was 58 thousand 604 tonnes in the first six months of the previous season.
Stating that yield lowness and the approach of the importers’ stockless working because of the pandemic, have paved the way to the decrease in the amount of dried apricot exports, Turkey Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Associations Sector Board Chairperson Osman Öz said, “What has provided the gain in foreign exchange is the rise in the average export price of dried apricots from 2 thousand 600 dollars to 3 thousand 240 dollars.”

Pointing out that dried apricot is the second product after raisins that earns in dried fruit industry which has brought 1.4 billion dollars in Turkey in recent years, Osman Öz noted, “We have prepared a ‘Dried Apricot Quality Improvement Project’ in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Turkey Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Associations Sector Board and Malatya Commodity Exchange. We believe that a similar picture will emerge in the second half of the 2020-21 season for dried apricots and that an income of over 300 million dollars will be obtained from dried apricot exports this season.”
“Dried apricots are exported to 104 countries from Turkey. In the first half of the 2020-21 season, USA ranked first with dried apricot exports of 20 million 416 thousand dollars. While we sent 15.4 million dollars of dried apricots to Germany, we exported 14 million dollars to France. Brazil followed with 9.6 million dollars,” Osman Öz added…
