Türkiye is in the top 10 across the world!
Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı stated that Türkiye is among the top 10 countries in the world in seed production and said, “97 kilograms of every 100 kilograms of seeds used in Türkiye are produced in the soil of this country.”
Emphasising that seed is the first start of this work in terms of ensuring food supply security, Yumaklı explained, “Leaving aside all the things that have been said about seeds or the falsehoods that are known to be true, I would like to ask you to be aware of these few issues. Firstly, Türkiye is among the top 10 countries in the world in seed production. Of every 100 kilograms of seed used in Türkiye, 97 kilograms are produced in the soil of this country. After our ancestor (heirloom) seeds are certified and confirmed, they are protected in our gene bank just like other seeds.”
“Within this context, Türkiye exports seeds to 117 countries and our Ministry’s General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Development (TAGEM) and many companies in the private sector continue their R&D studies on seeds,” Yumaklı added…
