Stating that milk costs have increased between 40 percent and 55 percent in the last year, Mutlu Doğru, Adana Farmers Association Chairman, emphasized that although the costs were transparently announced by the National Milk Council (USK), this has been ignored.
Doğru said, “There are Turkish Grain Board (TMO) and Meat and Milk Board (ESK), which are state institutions. TMO buys the farmer’s produce, and price determination is quite natural. However, which institution of the state buys the milk and intervenes in the free market? There is a contradiction here.”
“Meat and Milk Board should also buy the farmer’s milk and make use of it by making milk powder, if the farmer cannot sell his milk for the stated amount of 2.80 TL. This is the truth,” Doğru added.
“Because, you declare the reference price for the product you will buy, but it is wrong for free market economy to declare a price for the product that is not purchased,” Doğru concluded…
