Press release…

Exports of cereals, pulses and oil seeds increased by 17 percent in the first half of the year…

Mustafa Terci, Chairperson of Aegean Cereals, Pulses and Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association, said that while the exports of their Association in the January-June period of 2020 were 265 million dollars, in 2021 it was 309 million dollars with an increase of 17 percent.

Stating that vegetable oil is the locomotive of the Association’s exports, Terci said, “Our members, vegetable oil exporters, achieved an export of 168 million dollars and received a 54 percent share of the Association’s exports. We expect our vegetable oil exports, which we sent to 140 countries and gained 981 million dollars in 2020, now to reach 1 billion 250 million dollars by the end of 2021. Milling products, oil seeds, confectionery, bakery products were other sectors that stood out in our foreign sales.”

Terci explained, “In the January-June period, 32 million dollars of chocolate confectionery products were sold with a rise of 66 percent, oil seeds of 23 million dollars with a 1 percent, 21 million dollars of bagasses and animal feeds with a rise of 6 percent and 16 million dollars of cereal products with a rise of 40 percent.

The top 5 countries with the highest exports in six months are respectively; Libya with 38 million dollars, Yemen with 26 million dollars, Tunisia with 18 million dollars, Algeria with 15 million dollars and Germany with 14 million dollars.

The 3 countries with the highest increase in exports in the January-June period of 2021 were Mozambique, Brazil and Syria, respectively.”

“When we look at Turkey in general, we export to 203 countries, especially the Middle East, USA and Africa. As for the Aegean region, we export to 150 countries.

We have an export target of 550 million dollars for 2021. Cereals, pulses and oil seeds sector is one of the leading sectors supporting the food export of our country with its wide product range,” Terci added.

“41 percent of Turkey’s food exports belong to our sector. Our sector realized 7.3 billion dollars of our country’s food exports of 20.7 billion dollars in 2020. On the other hand, we have been experiencing congestion for 2 years in the Indian market, the biggest export market of poppy seeds, one of the traditional export products of the Aegean Region. However, for the solution of this problem, we have received a promise of support from the Minister of Trade Dr. Mehmet Muş. Should the problem is resolved immediately, we are at a point where we can earn around 65-70 million dollars of foreign currency to our country by exporting 18-20 thousand tonnes of poppy seeds,” Terci concluded…
