“This year we have a target of over 575 thousand tonnes of aquaculture.”

Reminding that fish production in Türkiye is carried out through hunting and aquaculture, Atalay said that Türkiye stands out in Europe in terms of both capability and hunting power in fisheries.

Pointing out that the country ranks first in Europe especially in aquaculture, Atalay said, “We rank first in the world in sea bass and sea bream breeding. We are the second country in the world in trout breeding. We are a country that determines the market and offers fish to a significant extent.”

Highlighting out that Türkiye has also made a name for itself in the export of aquaculture products, Atalay noted that fish products are exported to more than 100 countries.

“We now include fish farming within the scope of production planning, Atalay added, “On the other hand, R&D support in the fisheries sector has been beneficial and such studies are carried out not only in aquaculture and production, but also in the fight against invasive species. In this context, support was given to prevent the spread of pufferfish, which has recently increased as an invasive species.”
