Ferhat Gürüz, Chairman of the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, said that the highest number of fresh fruit and vegetable exports are made to Russia, Romania and Germany.
Evaluating the performance of the Turkish fresh fruit and vegetable sector in the first half of the year according to product groups and countries, Gürüz said: “Our sector, which realized exports of 273 million dollars in June, reached a value of 1 billion 696 million dollars in the 6 months of the year. Utilizing 2 million 277 thousand tonnes of products in international markets between January and June, the most exported products of our industry were tomatoes, tangerines and peppers. In this period, we exported 326 million dollars of tomatoes with a rise of 32 percent, tangerines of 228.4 million dollars with a rise of 35 percent and peppers of 180.2 million dollars with a rise of 51 percent.”
“Our biggest markets in our fresh fruit and vegetable exports in the first half of the year were Russia, Romania and Germany. We exported to Russia 498.2 million dollars with an increase of 10 percent, 180 million dollars to Romania with an increase of 42 percent and 156,6 million dollars to Germany with an increase of 26 percent. The Saudi Arabian, Austrian and Polish markets in question were the countries where we achieved significant increases in export volume,” he noted.

Emphasizing that the efficiency of the provinces in the region of responsibility of the Mediterranean Exporters’ Association (AKİB) in Türkiye’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports soared in the first half of 2023, Gürüz explained, “Our province of Mersin was ranked first and achieved a hike of 17 percent in the first half of the year, realized an export of 414.9 million dollars. Hatay province reached an export value of 250 million dollars with a hike of 10 percent, Adana province reached 89.4 million dollars with a hike of 30 percent and Karaman province reached 13 million dollars with a hike of 141 percent.”
