MEHMET CIRAV: TRABZON IS THE EXPORT CHAMPION AGAIN

Trabzon is the Champion Again in 2021/2022 Hazelnut Export Season…

In the 2021/2022 hazelnut export season, which started on September 1, 2021 and ended on August 31, 2022, the amount of hazelnuts exported from Türkiye reached 341,544 tonnes and a foreign exchange inflow of 1 Billion 987 Million 874 Thousand 676 dollars was provided. While there was a 17 percent spike in hazelnut exports in the 2021/22 season compared to the previous season, there was a 1 percent decrease in the foreign exchange inflow. European countries, which are traditional export markets, took the largest share in hazelnut exports among 126 countries.

In the 2021/2022 Hazelnut Export season, Trabzon province again won the championship in hazelnut exports, while Trabzon realized 33 percent of the total hazelnut export amount alone. By exporting 114,182 tonnes of hazelnuts from the region, 610 million 585 thousand 618 dollars foreign currency inflow was provided. There was a rise of 16 percent in the amount of hazelnut exported from Trabzon in the season. While hazelnuts were exported to 61 different countries from Trabzon, the most exported countries were Italy, Germany, Poland, France and the People’s Republic of China, respectively.

Mehmet Cirav, Chairman of the Hazelnut and Products Sector Committee of the Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association (DKİB), made evaluations on the latest export performance of the region.

Cirav said, “The pandemic experienced throughout the world in recent years has led to high inflation and shrinkage in demand in global markets, but that exporting over 341 thousand tonnes of hazelnuts is an important success of the exporter.”

“Export prices remained below the previous season due to the contraction in demand in buyer countries and the emphasis on consumption of stocks rather than new purchases, putting pressure on prices,” he added…
