Within the scope of INNOFOOD Project, Türkiye’s largest food R&D and innovation project financed by the European Union and Türkiye, a “Workshop on the Dried Fruits Industry and Its Future in Türkiye” was held in cooperation with the Turkish Food Innovation Platform-TUGIP, which was established under the leadership of Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association and TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye) Marmara Research Centre.
Turkish dried fruit sector has determined its R&D and innovation strategies in dried fruit, especially seedless raisins, dried figs and dried apricots, which are the world leader in the production and export of super foods with high nutritional value.
Mehmet Ali Işık, Chairperson of Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association, said, “The dried fruit industry has accomplished a lot from past to present. Sustainability is now the most important agenda item in the world. The European Union declared the Green Deal. We have done very good work for 30 years with all our stakeholders, our universities, agricultural control organizations, chambers and commodity exchanges. Our institutes date back to 50-60 years.”
“We are the world leader in the production and export of seedless raisins. We came from 10-15 thousand tonnes to 100 thousand tonnes of figs. Apricot is another success story. We started from 20-25 tonnes to over 100 thousand tonnes. We send healthy products to the whole world. Our main principle is to offer humanity this healthy product in the best possible way,” he added…
