Kars, which is one of Turkey’s most important breeding centres meets the cattle needs of 80 provinces. Kars is presently in the top 5 among the provinces in terms of animal husbandry.
Kars, while taking place in the top 5 across Turkey, dispatch over 200 thousand bovines and 150 thousand ovines annually.
Stating that Kars takes place one of the top positions that selling either fatling or sacrificial animals, Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Hüseyin Düzgün said, “We are in the top 5 across Turkey. According to general livestock population, Kars province provides 3 percent of cattle with 600 thousand bovines. That is why we are able to dispatch over 200 thousand bovines and 150 thousand ovines annually along with selling fatling and sacrificial animals.”

Dr. Düzgün added, “If we give an overall average, our region meets 20 percent of our country’s general fatling animals, while Kars meets 10 percent by itself. The main reason of this performance is both the farming experience of our people based on past and the geographical structure along with convenient climatic conditions and pastures.”
