Call from leather exporters to bring sacrificial skins to the economy before Eid al-Adha…
The Turkish leather sector, which could not meet the cost due to the fact that the exchange rates in Türkiye did not increase at the rate of inflation and therefore its exports decreased by 25 percent in the 5-month period of 2024, took action to bring the skins of the sacrifices to be slaughtered in the upcoming Eid al-Adha (Qurban Bayram – Feast of Sacrifice) to the economy.
Turkish leather and leather products exporters, whose main raw material is leather, summarise the things to be considered in order to bring the leather into the economy with the public spot they prepared on the subject.
Halil Gündoğdu, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Aegean Leather and Leather Products Exporters’ Association, stated that 1 million animals were slaughtered for sacrifice during the Qurban Bayram, but an average of 300 thousand skins could not be brought into the economy.
6 million shoes, 1.5 million bags to produce leather goes to waste…
Gündoğdu emphasised that it is possible to produce 1.5 million bags and 6 million shoes with the skins that are shredded after the wrong operations of unqualified people during the Feast of Sacrifice and warned, “We have to import raw leather because we waste the skins of animals slaughtered on the Feast of Sacrifice.”
