İGSAŞ to brake on half a billion dollar fertiliser imports…
İlkay Ünal, General Manager of Istanbul Gübre Sanayi Anonim Şirketi (Fertilizer Industry Inc.), said that with the new investment in Kocaeli, they will ramp up our market share in urea fertiliser from 15 to 30 percent.
İGSAŞ, the sector leader with a 20 percent share in the Turkish fertiliser market, will increase its urea production in Kocaeli from 560 thousand tonnes per year to 1.2 million tonnes with new investments. “As the sole urea producer, we will increase our market share from 15 per cent to 30 per cent and substitute imports worth 500 million dollars a year,” said İlkay Ünal, General Manager of İGSAŞ.
At the last press conference of the year, İlkay Ünal, General Manager of İGSAŞ, which ranked 87th in the ISO 500 (the list of largest industrial companies in Türkiye), evaluated the sector in 2023 and explained the investment targets for the future and the projects to be implemented. Ünal, who attended the meetings organised in Ho Chi Minh-Saigon, Vietnam, together with all stakeholders of the company, answered the questions of journalists.
Production of 1.2 million tonnes with more than 750 employees…
With its facilities in Kocaeli, Kütahya and Antalya regions, İGSAŞ currently has a production capacity of 1.2 million tonnes and employs more than 750 people. Stating that İGSAŞ is the sole producer of urea fertiliser, which has a critical importance for agriculture and industry, Ünal explained, “The annual consumption of urea in Türkiye is around 3-3.5 million tonnes… Approximately 2 million tonnes of this amount is used in agriculture, while the rest is used in industry. Urea is the most critical nitrogen fertiliser. Fertilisers are divided into two as sub-base fertiliser and top fertiliser. Urea is the top fertiliser and is applied on crops after they reach a certain size.”
“Our facilities in Kocaeli province are still the only urea producer in the country. For example, we produce specific fertilisers for Antalya, which have a much smaller tonnage but are used intensively especially in greenhouses and vegetable growing, apart from the classical fertilisers called powder liquid pure groups. In this facility, we aim to boost our capacity to 80 thousand tonnes in 2024,” Ünal added…
