In the first quarter of January-March 2021, 1.282.978 kg of tea was exported from our country and in return, a foreign exchange entry of 5.124.981 dollars was provided. During this period, tea exports to 95 countries rose by 23 percent in amount and 33 percent on value basis compared to the same period of the previous year. The highest tea exports were made to EU countries, with the highest tea exported countries being Belgium, Germany and the USA, respectively.
Rize, the tea capital of Turkey, has been the province from which 66 percent of tea exports made from the country and 55 percent of the value also were made from this region.
In the first quarter of the year, tea exported from Rize to 16 countries amounted to 2.805.468 dollars for 851.745 kg.
Saffet Kalyoncu, Chairman of the Board of the Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association (DKİB), who made evaluations on the subject and said that tea, which is one of the most important agricultural products of the Eastern Black Sea Region, started exports with a high rate of increase in the first quarter of the year.
Kalyoncu also stated that the rise in tea exports from the country every year in terms of both regional variety and quantity is an important development and contributed significantly to the export of the region.
