In the autumn and winter seasons, pickles which are indispensable and natural antibiotic store take their place on the tables across Türkiye.
On the other hand, Türkiye has earned 260 million dollars in the 9-month period of 2023 in pickle exports. Turkish pickle exports, which were 228 million dollars in the January-September period of 2022, soared by 14 percent in 2023.
With an export performance of 260 million dollars, pickles have become the leading product group in Türkiye’s exports of fruit and vegetable products worth 1 billion 700 million dollars.
Hayrettin Uçak, Chair of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association (EYMSİB), said that the pickles produced by the Turkish pickle sector in modern facilities, are in demand all over the world.
“The number of countries to which we export pickles increased to 136 in 2023,” he said.
Stating that Türkiye produces 58 million tonnes of fresh fruits and vegetables annually, Uçak continued his words as follows; “It is not possible to consume and export 58 million tonnes of fresh fruits and vegetables fresh in season. For this reason, we transform the products produced by our farmers with thousands of labour into added value by drying, canning, freezing and pickling. As the Aegean Region, we have realised 77 percent of the country’s pickle exports with 200 million dollars.”
