Hayrettin Uçak: We have had foreign currency rain from Balkan countries

Hayrettin Uçak, Chairperson of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Products Exporters’ Association (EYMSİB), said that their exports of agricultural products to the Balkans soared by 16 per cent in the first quarter of 2024 from 401 million dollars to 463 million dollars.

“In exports to the Balkan countries, while the fresh fruit and vegetable sector was the leader of food products exports with an amount of 190 million dollars, the cereals, pulses and oilseeds sector exported 131 million dollars to 11 Balkan countries,” he said.

“The fisheries and animal products sector ranked third among the food sectors exporting the most to the Balkans with exports of 56 million dollars,” he added.

Stating that this time, instead of rainy weather from the Balkans to Türkiye, he explained, “We have had foreign currency. However, as Türkiye, we have the power to meet all the food needs of the Balkans from fruit and vegetables to animal products, from olive oil to dried fruits, from bakery products to fruit and vegetable products. In 2024, we aim to export 2 billion dollars in agricultural products to the Balkans. In 2028, our target for exporting agricultural products to these region is 4 billion dollars. In the first quarter of 2024, we achieved significant export increases to 10 of the 11 Balkan countries.”

“We can reach an export volume of 25 billion dollars at the end of 2024 and 50 billion dollars at the end of 2028,” he concluded…
