Hayrettin Uçak: We aim to increase our fresh fruit and vegetable exports to over 2 billion dollars in 2028

The Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association (EYMSİB) has implemented the most successful Development of International Competitiveness Project (UR-GE Project) within the framework of UR-GE Projects, where the Ministry of Trade aims to boost the competencies and performances of exporter companies by clustering.

Speaking at the ceremony held at the Ministry of Trade in Ankara, Hayrettin Uçak, President of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association, said that the fresh fruit and vegetable industry is a sector where price competition is intense and that the Development of International Competitiveness Projects of the Ministry of Trade provide them with a great advantage to compete in this competition.

“In addition to the opportunities offered by the Development of International Competitiveness Projects in price competition, we aimed to tell the story of modern and safe agricultural production from farm to fork by taking inspiration from the ancient agricultural production in Anatolia and we succeeded,” he said.

Explaining that they started the Target Markets in Fresh Cherry, Grape and Pomegranate Products Development of International Competitiveness Project in 2019, Uçak noted, “Within the scope of the project, we first conducted our needs analysis study in which our road map was determined. In order to find the right customers, we prepared a promotional film, website and catalogue simultaneously with our 6-month consultancy activity for Target Market Analysis.”

“During this period, despite the pandemic, we did not stop our project for a moment, we put on our masks, went to meetings, facilities and made our companies ready for marketing activities. We ramped up our fresh fruit and vegetable exports to India, our target market, from 31 million dollars in 2020 to 69 million dollars at the end of 2021 and to 100 million dollars in 2023. We have raised our exports to India by approximately 4 times in 3 years,” he added.

“We aim to increase our exports from 1 billion 330 million dollars to over 2 billion dollars in 2028,” he concluded…
