HAYRETTIN UCAK: OUR TARGET EXPORT IS 100 MILLION DOLLARS IN FRESH FIG

Harvest time for fresh figs, which are defined as sacred fruit in all monotheistic religions and recommended in diets with low calories. The first cut and export dates have been announced for the Sarılop variety fresh figs grown in Aydın province and the black fig, defined as the Bursa Black, which adorns the tables of the British Royal Family.

While the harvest date for sarılop figs was set as 25 July, the export of sarılop fresh figs was allowed from 26 July.

The cut date for black figs was set to 27 July and the export date to 28 July. Fresh figs began to decorate market shelves and market stalls.

Aegean Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Exporters’ Association Chhairperson Hayrettin Uçak advised citizens to consume figs fresh in the season and dry after the season.

Sharing the knowledge that Turkiye has generated 70 million dollars of foreign exchange income from fresh fig exports in 2021, Uçak said, “The largest portion of 60 million dollars of our fresh fig exports was obtained from Bursa black figs. The export value of sarılop figs was 10 million dollars. Our fresh fig exports soared by 17 percent in 2021. We aim to export 100 million dollars of fresh figs in 2022.”

Mostly preferred by the Germans…

“While Turkiye exported Bursa black fresh figs to 40 countries in 2021, Germany took the first place with a demand of 27 million dollars. While 5.8 million dollars of Bursa black was exported to the Netherlands, it ranked third in the UK with a demand of 5.1 million dollars,” Uçak added.

“While the Russian Federation took the top spot in the export of sarılop with 3.1 million dollars, the demand for 2.3 million dollars came from Germany. In the Netherlands; it became the third country by importing 866 thousand dollars of sarılop. The number of countries to which we exported sarılop was recorded as 39,” he concluded…
