ISTANBUL

Turkish flour exports in the first half of the year totaled 1.8 million tonnes, generating 680 million dollars in revenue, said an industry group on Thursday.

Eren Günhan Ulusoy, director of the International Association of Operative Millers (IAOM) Eurasia, said in a statement that Turkish flour exports were up 15 percent year-on-year this January-June.

In the same period, the flour sector did the largest share of its exports to Iraq, the African nation of Djibouti, and Syria.

Flour exports to Sudan soared 355 percent, Djibouti 323 percent, Egypt 291 percent, and Indonesia 105 percent year-on-year in the first half of the year.

The industry aims to have exported 4 million metric tonnes (4.4 million tonnes) of flour at 1.5 billion dollars in total revenues by the end of 2024, said Ulusoy.
