FRESH FRUIT AND VEG EXPORTS INCREASE BY 26.34 PERCENT FROM WESTERN MED REGION…

Fresh vegetable and fruit exports from the Western Mediterranean region, which includes Antalya, Isparta and Burdur, in 8 months of the year increased by 26.34 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 389 million 746 thousand dollars.

According to the West Mediterranean Exporters’ Association (BAİB) data, 1 billion 206 million 526 thousand 815 dollars were exported from the region between January 1 and August 31.

389 million 746 thousand 204 dollars of this export was made in the fresh vegetable and fruit sector, which Antalya has a corner on the market. As a matter of fact 308 million 488 thousand dollars of exports made in the same period last year, so an increase of 26.34 percent was realized this year.

The region, which exported 23 million 398 thousand dollars of fresh vegetables and fruits in August last year, reached an export figure of 31 million 835 dollars in the same month this year.

Tomato not lost its seat!

In the fresh vegetable and fruit sector, the highest export was made in tomato, as in every period. Tomato export from the region in 8 months was 91 million 615 thousand 772 dollars. Cherry ranked second in the sector. During this period, 77 million 365 thousand 676 dollars worth of cherries were exported from the region.

Other products that were exported the most from the sector were sweet peppers, red peppers, green peppers, pomegranates, cucumbers, pumpkin and apricots.
