While Turkey’s exports of fisheries products in January – October period, reaching 159 thousand tonnes in return of 822 million dollars, Turkish salmon exports caught 40 million dollars in 10-month period of 2020 with the increase of 52 percent.
Turkish aquaculture industry has developed the Omega-3 high Turkish salmon, which is tastier and more satisfying than Norwegian salmon, after R&D studies in recent years, and aims to export 50 million dollars from Turkish salmon at the end of 2020.
Turkey Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Association Industry Board Chairman Sinan Kızıltan said that the fisheries sector made 1 billion 38 million dollars of exports for the first time in 2019 and they expect to exceed 1 billion dollars level in exports at the end of 2020 despite pandemic.
52 percent export increase in Turkish salmon…
Pointing out that fisheries sector has showed great improvement after the year 2000 in Turkey, Kızıltan said, “In 2000, our exports were only 60 million dollars but we have managed to reach 1 billion 38 million dollars at the end of 2019. We have an export target of 2 billion dollars for 2023. While Turkish salmon was 26 million 252 thousand dollars in the January – October period of 2019, it reached 40 million dollars in the 10-month period of 2020 with an increase of 52 percent. We aim to surpass 50 million in Turkish salmon exports by the end of 2020. Turkish salmon currently has a 5 percent share in our aquaculture exports. We believe that when we come to 2025, the share of Turkish salmon in our total exports will increase to 10 percent.”
Sea bass and sea bream exports rose by 6 percent…
“In January – October period, sea bass took the top place with 295 million dollars in exports of fishery products from Turkey with an increase of 6 percent,” Kızıltan added.
“Sea bream was the most exported fish variety after sea bass. While our sea bream export was 242 million dollars in the January – October period of 2019, it increased to 256 million dollars in the same period of 2020 with 6 percent growth. While our trout export reached 100 million dollars with a horizontal course, the perch (granyoz) rose by 11 percent to 5.5 million dollars,” Kızıltan concluded…
