FIRST HARVEST AND OLIVE OIL PRESSING IN AYVALIK…

Press release…

The 18th Ayvalık (a district of Türkiye’s western province of Balıkesir) International Olive Harvest Festival, which started on Friday, 13 October with a march of gratitude to olives, was the centre of attention this year with the harvest that started in Cunda (Island), followed by olive oil pressing and colourful programmes.

Speaking at the event organised for the first harvest and olive oil pressing, Ayvalık Mayor Mesut Ergin stated that Ayvalık is one of the centres with the most well-known olive and olive oil producers in Türkiye and the world and said, “Firstly, Ayvalık is known and recognised for its name and then for its excellence and our olive oil is among the brands preferred by famous chefs. Ayvalık olive oil is indispensable for kitchens. Due to the fact that our olive oil has a ‘Geographical Indication’, its awareness, recognition and taste are unquestionably accepted in every country of the world.”

Emphasising the 18th Olive Harvest Festival, Mayor Ergin explained, “Our olive tree, olives and olive oil is a very important cultural heritage passed down from generation to generation. It is necessary to know this very well; Ayvalık owes its past to olives. The greatest heritage it will leave to the future is the olive tree, olive oil and olives.”

“By the way, it is our duty to attract attention to Ayvalık and to ensure that more local and foreign guests come to Ayvalık every year than the previous year. The festival also mediates this purpose. The Harvest Festival, where local people, the press, producers, suppliers and sellers come together and share a social mobility for a short time, naturally adds strength to the tourism of our city. We will look forward to next year’s harvest festival with the healthy flavours we get from olive oil,” he added…
