Noting that they travelled to China in the last week of January with a delegation of 25 people headed by Tayfun Kılıç, Deputy General Director of Export of the Ministry of Trade, Ferhat Gürüz stated that they held negotiations for the start of fresh fruit and vegetable exports to this country.
Emphasising that Türkiye has increased diplomatic traffic with the Chinese authorities since last October for the start of fresh fruit and vegetable exports, Ferhat Gürüz said, “We are waiting for our Chinese counterparts to come to our country and make examinations in gardens and enterprises and to give conformity as a result. We hope that the protocol conditions will be determined and the way for exports will be opened.”
Strengthening bridges with Canada in citrus exports…
Stating that the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, which is the sector leader, has also boosted its activities to ramp up citrus exports to Canada, Gürüz also reminded that they hosted the senior executives of Loblaw Companies Ltd, the largest retail food and supermarket chain of this country, in Mersin in January.
“We brought together the executives of Loblaw Companies, which is interested in pomegranate, stone fruits, forest fruits and similar products as well as citrus fruits, with the representatives of 15 exporter companies in the service building of the Mediterranean Exporters’ Associations and that bilateral negotiations were held and that the Canadian delegation also examined the packaging facilities of 8 companies,” Gürüz explained.
Reminding that the Turkish fresh fruit and vegetable sector surged its exports in the Canadian market by 73 percent in 2023 and that this figure was 124 percent in the citrus product group, Gürüz added, “The business relations between Loblaw Companies and our citrus exporter companies will have a positive impact on other product groups of our country, especially for fresh fruit and fresh fruit and vegetable products groups.”
