FERHAT GURUZ: CITRUS SEASON STARTED WITH LEMON EXPORTS

Ferhat Gürüz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association, said that the export season in citrus, which is the most important product group in Türkiye’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports, started in September.

“Our citrus exports started on 15 September with Mayer variety lemon. We opened the new season with high yields. Therefore, the search for new markets has become much more important in order to transform the sweat and labour of our producers into the best value. In September, we exported 28.5 million dollars in citrus exports. In order to have a successful season, we strive to bring the highest amount of foreign currency to our country by strengthening the culture of consultation with all stakeholders of our sector,” Gürüz said.

Evaluating Türkiye’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports in September according to product groups and countries, Gürüz explained, “Our sector, which evaluated 282 thousand 266 tonnes of products in international markets in September, exported the most figs, lemons and grapes. We obtained a value of 42.4 million dollars in figs, 36.8 million dollars in lemons and 34 million dollars in grapes. The products that we achieved the strongest increases in export volume in the said period were lemons, onions and oranges.”

“When we analyse the countries to which we exported the most in the 9th month of the year, the first three places were Russia, Iraq and Germany. We exported 42.1 million dollars to Russia, 34.7 million dollars to Iraq and 32 million dollars to Germany. In September, we achieved the highest increases in export volume in India, Iraq and Poland markets. We reached a value of 6 million dollars with a hike of 379 percent in India, 34.7 million with a hike of 353 percent in Iraq and 5.64 million dollars with a hike of 181 percent in Poland,” Gürüz added…
