Turkey-wide exports of tomatoes and their products reached 608 million dollars in 2020 and exports of tomatoes and products made from the Aegean reached 187 million dollars with an increase of 3 percent. The fruit and vegetable sector aims to increase the export of tomato product group to 650 million dollars in 2021.
Hayrettin Uçak, Chairperson of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, said that fresh fruits and vegetables and fruit and vegetable products, which amounted to 4 billion 414 million dollars in 2020, are among the record-breaking sectors on an annual basis.
Uçak said, “In 2020, as the industry, we have drawn an extremely successful graphic despite all the difficulties. Our country, which is a serious actor in the global fruit and vegetable market, ranks 3rd in the world with an annual production of 12.8 million tons of tomatoes. Turkey is also in a strong position in tomato product diversity. Turkey-wide exports of tomatoes and their products, which make the biggest contribution to our export record with its wide product range, were 608 million dollars in 2020, and our Aegean exports increased by 3 percent to 187 million dollars.”
“Our 2021 target in tomato and its products is to achieve 650 million dollars of exports by continuing our growth steadily with our breakthroughs that enlarge the value added chain. In the first four months of 2021, we have earned 253 million dollars in exports of tomatoes and their products throughout Turkey and 54 million dollars in exports from the Aegean,” Uçak added…
