“EXPORT OF TOMATO AND ITS PRODUCTS RUNS TO 1 BILLION DOLLARS”

Tomato and its products exports increased by 20 percent…

Fresh tomatoes, which make up almost half of the exports in the tomato and tomato products sector, started the year with a 23 percent increase in exports.

In 2021, Turkey earned 729 million dollars in foreign exchange revenue from the exports of tomatoes and products made from tomatoes, with a rise of 20 percent compared to the previous year.

Fresh tomato exports accounted for 49.7 percent of the total exports in this area. While 313 million dollars of foreign exchange was obtained from fresh tomatoes in 2020, this figure reached 363 million dollars in 2021 with an increase of 16 percent.

Fresh tomatoes jumped as of the new year. In January 2022, exports soared by 23 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 43.6 million dollars.

The exports of tomatoes and their products, which were 58 million dollars in January 2021, rose by 43 percent to 83 million dollars in 2022.

Last year, Turkey exported fresh tomatoes to 53 countries. Russia is the country with the highest demand for fresh tomatoes with 68 million dollars. This country was followed by Romania with 58 million dollars and Bulgaria with 41 million dollars.

Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Exporters’ Association Chairperson Hayrettin Uçak said, “In tomato and tomato products exports, tomato paste came after fresh tomatoes with 208 million dollars. The raise in tomato paste exports was recorded as 32 percent. Iraq ranks first with its tomato paste demand of 120 million dollars. The second country was Italy with 18 million dollars. Germany ranked third with a demand of 11.5 million dollars. Turkey exported tomato paste to 122 countries.”

“Turkey’s dried tomato exports reached 97.3 million dollars in 2021 with an increase of 17 percent. Frozen tomato exports grew by 22 percent from 32 million to 39 million dollars, while tomato sauces and ketchup showed an export performance of 17 million dollars. Exports of peeled tomatoes contributed 2.7 million dollars and tomato juice exports also contributed 2 million dollars,” Hayrettin Uçak added…
