National Milk Council (USK) Research and Advisory Board Member Professor Dr. Nevzat Artık stated that the Raw Milk Action Plan carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will boost the share of dairy exports.
Dr. Artık said that Türkiye is an important country in terms of dairy farming in Edirne, where he came for a panel discussion and that it is the third country producing the highest amount of milk in Europe.
Indicating that 24.2 million tonnes of milk was produced in 2023, but despite this surplus, the export figures in dairy products remained low, Artık said, “Studies were carried out under the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to ramp up exports in dairy products and that quality, efficiency and sustainability would be prioritised in this context.”
Emphasising that efforts are being made to ensure production in accordance with the European Union criteria, Dr. Artık added, “Within the scope of this plan, it is aimed to increase the quality of raw milk. We plan to improve animal husbandry and find solutions to the problems of the dairy sector. If we succeed in the Raw Milk Action Plan, the income of our farmers will hike and the products of our country will be marketed to foreign countries more easily.”
