Geographical Indication Works Speeded Up in Giresun…

It was stated that within the scope of a local project carried out by the Giresun Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry with the financial contribution of the Eastern Black Sea Project Regional Development Administration (DOKAP) and in cooperation with the stakeholders, 5 products unique to Turkiye’s eastern Black Sea province Giresun, have been given geographical indications in the last five years.

Provincial Director Dr. Muhammet Angın said that geographical sign is a quality sign that shows and guarantees the source of the product, its characteristics and the connection between the said characteristic features of the product and the geographical area for consumers.

Dr. Angın said, “With geographical indication registration, it is ensured that products that have gained a certain reputation depending on their quality, traditionality, raw materials obtained from the region and local qualities are protected.”

“In this context, respectively; Çamoluk Sugar Dried Beans (2018), Görele Ice Cream (2019), Çavuşlu Bread (2020), Alucra Oğlak (Kidling) Kebab (2020), Şebinkarahisar Black Mulberry (2021) have been registered as geographical indications. In addition, the application documents prepared by the technical staff of our Provincial Directorate for Giresun Nettle, Giresun Bagel and Giresun Tel Kadayıf have been sent to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office and the geographical indication process continues,” Dr. Angın added.

“Our studies on Giresun Taflanı, Eynesil Nougat, Görele Pita and Tirebolu Tea are also continuing and the documents will be prepared and submitted to TÜRKPATENT as soon as possible,” Dr. Angın concluded…
