DAVUT ER: TURKIYE’S TABLE OLIVE EXPORTS REACH OVER 184 MILLION DOLLARS

Türkiye’s exports of table olives totalled 184 million 510 thousand dollars…

Table olive exports exceeded 100 thousand tonnes…

The Turkish olive sector, which ranked first in the world with a yield of 735 thousand tonnes, achieved an export performance of 184 million 510 thousand dollars in table olives in the 2022/23 season. Türkiye exported table olives worth 172 million 531 thousand dollars in the 2021/22 season. The amount of foreign currency obtained from table olive exports improved by 7 per cent.

According to the data of the Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EIB), black olive exports were recorded as 75 thousand 295 tonnes worth 137 million 705 thousand dollars, while green olive exports were recorded as 25 thousand 76 tonnes worth 46 million 805 thousand dollars. The number of countries to which Türkiye exports table olives was 117.

Davut Er, Chair of the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association (EZZİB), stated that Türkiye’s investments in the olive sector in the last 20 years have begun to pay off, adding that the 184 million 510 thousand dollars obtained in table olive exports in the 2022/23 season was recorded as a record in the history of the Republic.

Black olives

“More than 90 per cent of our table olive exports are packaged,” said Davut Er, “Our unit price soared by 17 per cent on a foreign currency basis compared to last season. We will endeavour to export more value-added products in the coming years. Despite the ban imposed on bulk and barreled olive oil and pomace exports in the middle of the season, we reached an export level of 948 million dollars in the last 1-year period. If there were no bans, we would have exceeded the sector’s target of 1 billion dollars.”

Germany was the export leader in black olives and Iraq in green olives…

“While Germany was the leading country in the country’s table black olive exports with 33.4 million dollars, 24.3 million dollars worth of black olives were exported to Romania, one of our traditional export markets. Iraq was the third country with a demand of 23.4 million dollars of black olives from Türkiye, while 9.6 million dollars of black olives were exported to Bulgaria and 7.8 million dollars to the USA,” Er added.

Green olives

“In green olive exports, Iraq was at the top with 9.1 million dollars worth of exports, while Germany was the top partner with a demand of 8.7 million dollars. While 3.2 million dollars of green olives were exported to the USA, Israel and Romania were ranked with a demand of 2.4 million dollars and 2.1 million dollars, respectively,” he concluded…
