DAVUT ER: OLIVE OIL IS NOT TO BE SUBSTITUTED FOR VEGETABLE OILS

Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association (EZZİB) Chairperson Davut Er harsly criticized the restriction on olive oil exports in packages over 5 kg.

Davut Er said, “With the ‘Communiqué on the Export of Certain Agricultural Products’ published in the Official Gazette on January 27, 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry was authorized to make periodic arrangements in the export of certain products, including olive and olive oil, when necessary and with the instructions of our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry dated February 26, 2022, even less than a year after the bulk olive oil ban introduced in 2021, it was decided to restrict the export of Bulk Olive Oil products with a packaging amount exceeding 5 Kg.”

“As we have stated many times previously, such prohibitions and restrictions cause the loss of export markets in the Turkish olive and olive oil sector in the long run and also cause great harm to the whole sector, from the producer to the exporter. As the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association, we find the ban to be extremely wrong. We also paid a visit to our Minister of Agriculture and Forestry last week to demand that this wrong be corrected as soon as possible,” Er added.

“When we look at the current sectoral data, it is clear that such a ban will not be needed. Olive oil is not the one that can be substituted for vegetable oils,” Er concluded…
