According to the information obtained by Anatolian Agency (AA) correspondent, it is aimed to compile the latest data on the sector with the general agricultural census. It is envisaged to provide the opportunity for comparison and harmonisation for current agricultural statistics and to create a framework for agricultural research to be carried out in the interim years.
To date, 7 general agricultural censuses have been conducted in Türkiye. These censuses were conducted in 1927, 1950, 1963, 1970, 1980, 1991 and 2001.
The census aims to produce new agricultural statistics by obtaining a statistical framework and to create an “Agricultural Information System” that will form the basis for all agricultural policies. In this context, the identification and registration of agricultural holdings that are not included in the existing records is among the prioritised objectives.

It is aimed to develop the Agricultural Enterprise Registration System with this census. The system is a database containing the address and identity information of agricultural enterprises (household and institutional) and the size and type of enterprises. The system, which enables the determination of support criteria that will increase enterprise productivity, the transformation of production methods and cultivation into a planned agricultural model, the production of stable and sustainable agricultural policies, and the control and supervision through a single system, will be further developed with the general agricultural census.

Within the scope of the protocol signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and TURKSTAT, the census will be conducted in two phases starting from next year. In the first phase, the determination of agricultural lands that are not included in the existing administrative records and the identification of enterprises engaged in agricultural activities on these lands, the preparation of questionnaires and data entry programmes to be applied, information, training and promotion activities will be carried out.
