CELAL KADOOGLU: SOUTHEASTERN GRAIN AND PULSE EXPORTERS ARE SATISFIED AS OF NOW

Celal Kadooğlu, Chair of the Southeastern Anatolia Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association, reported that the sector made 32.5 percent of the 6.5 billion dollars of exports made from the Southeastern Anatolia Region between 1 January-31 July.

Gaziantep, 18 August, 2023

Celal Kadooğlu announced that 32.5 percent of the 6.5 billion dollars of exports made from the Southeastern Anatolia Region in the period of 1 January-31 July was carried out by their sector.

Kadooğlu, in his written statement, said that the decline observed in world trade with the effect of monetary tightening caused stagnation in many sectors, but the same situation was not the case in food.

Emphasising that last month’s export data gave hope to the sector, he said, “We exported 588 million dollars in July, which we left behind one of the most active months in recent years and we doubled our export average in the first 6 months in this month. In the first quarter, with the effect of the earthquake, our share in Türkiye in general fell slightly below 30 percent, but at the end of 7 months, we once again proved our leadership in the cereals, pulses, oil seeds and products sector as the region with the highest exports in the sector.”

Reminding that 6.5 billion dollars of exports were made from the Southeastern Anatolia Region between 1 January-31 July, he indicated that their sector had a 32.5 percent share of the region’s exports with 2.1 billion dollars of exports.

“Biscuit-pastry product groups are currently in a serious rise both in Türkiye and in our region. The share of Southeastern Anatolia in the total exports of the sector, which reached 850 million dollars in the first 7 months, reached 240 million dollars. This success is a result of the large investments made in products such as cakes, pastries, biscuits and cookies in recent years in our region where high-level wheat flour is produced,” he noted.

“Hundreds of tonnes of biscuits and cakes are produced in hundreds of thousands of square metres every day in Gaziantep province. Our exporters, who develop a wide variety of products with R&D and flavour studies, are opening up to different geographies by branding. Currently, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Libya rank first in our biscuit-paste exports. These countries are followed by Belgium and Israel,” he added…
