Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association continues its efforts to increase quality and food safety in dried figs. Attractive bait traps used in the fight against Carpophilus (souring beetle) were distributed to the producers free of charge this year as well.
Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association Chairperson Birol Celep reminded that dried figs, one of the most important crops of the Aegean Region, were sent to 112 countries in 2021 and an export of 263 million dollars was realized with an increase of 11 percent.
Celep said, “The export amount of dried figs soared by 5 percent in 2021 compared to the previous year and amounted to 71 thousand tonnes. In the period from October 6, 2021 to March 5, 2022, Turkiye’s overall dried fig exports rose by 2 percent to 166 million dollars. Germany and France are in the first place in our exports with 24 million dollars and the USA with 15 million dollars.”
“Our Association continues to fight against the Carpophilus, which causes quality loss in dried figs and negatively affects our exports. By having the attractive bait traps made, we have distributed them free of charge to our producers in the villages where the pests are concentrated in the production regions, in cooperation with our Agriculture and Forestry Provincial/District Directorates,” Celep added…
