Celep: We earned 1.6 billion dollars in export revenues for our country
Birol Celep, Member of the Board of Directors of Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TIM) and Member of the Board of Directors of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association, said that as the dried fruit sector, they achieved an export revenue of 1.6 billion dollars for Turkish economy in return for our exports of 483 thousand tonnes in 2023 and they maintained the world leadership in production and exports in 2023.
“1.14 billion dollars of our total exports in 2023 was obtained from the export of sultanas, dried figs and dried apricots, and the share of sultanas in our total exports was 29 percent, dried apricots 25 percent and dried figs 17 percent. While the market share of European countries, our largest export market, in our dried fruit exports was 62 per cent, exports to markets such as Japan and the USA also increased. Türkiye, which alone accounts for 32 percent of the world’s raisin exports, earned 465 million dollars in 2023 with an 8 percent increase compared to the previous year in return for 255 thousand tonnes of grape exports,” Celep said.
“Dried figs, one of Türkiye’s prestige products and considered as a sacred fruit in all Abrahamic religions, was exported 70,328 tonnes in 2023 with a rise of 11 percent compared to the previous year and an income of 271 million USD. Türkiye’s dried apricot exports decreased by 7 percent compared to the previous year to 71 thousand tonnes and our export revenue was 405 million dollars. As the dried fruit sector, I would like to say that our primary goal for 2024 is to achieve sustainable production and export growth,” Celep added.
“In order to achieve this goal, we will continue our work with our producers, exporters, Ministries, Universities and international stakeholders. With our promotional projects, we will try to ramp up the export of our sector and our products and find solutions to our problems,” Celep concluded…
