Press release…

The Turkish aquaculture and animal products industry, which ramped up its exports to the United States from $71 million to $105 million in 2022 with an increase of 48 percent, laid the groundwork for new commercial connections at the New York Fancy Food Show.

The Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Association, the leader of the Turkish aquaculture and animal products sector that wants to expand the share of the United States, which is the world’s largest food products importer, in protein products imports, presented Turkish aquatic and animal products to the taste of the Americans by participating in the Food Show Fair, took place in New York on 25-27 June 2023.

Stating that the Summer Fancy Food Show Fair of which the Turkish National Participation Organisation realised by the Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EIB), is the largest food fair in the USA, Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Association (ESÜHMİB) Chair Bedri Girit said that Türkiye’s food products exports continue to surge to the USA which imported 220 billion dollars of food products in 2022.

We aim for 250 million dollars in exports to the USA…

Sharing the information that Türkiye’s food exports to the USA, which was 924 million dollars in 2018, increased to 1 billion 815 million dollars at the end of 2022, Girit said, “We carried from 71 million to $105 million. As the Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Association, we mÜade the largest slice of 63 million dollars of this export and realised 60 percent of the country’s aquaculture and animal products exports to the USA on our own.”

“As the aquaculture and animal products sector, we want to boost our exports to the USA to 250 million dollars in the medium term. While fish takes the lead by far with 56 million dollars in the products we export, of course our honey export is 18.2 million dollars, our dairy products export is 11 million dollars and our egg exports are at the level of 5 million dollars. At the Fancy Food Fair, we successfully promoted Turkish food products with menus focused on Turkish salmon, honey, cheese, wine and olive oil in the tasting area at the Türkiye stand. We started an intensive study in line with the structure of the US market, especially for honey. We presented our sample honeys to the taste of the visitors,” he added.

Pointing out that they exhibited sea bass, sea bream and cheese varieties known in the US market and Turkish salmon, which is one of the star products of Türkiye in exports in recent years, Girit also noted that Turkish salmon was met with great interest by the visitors of the fair and they expect a great rise in Turkish salmon exports to the USA in the upcoming period.
