Şemsi Bayraktar: Prices are increasing, imitation and adulteration in olive oil does not end!
Pointing out that olive oil is one of the most counterfeited and adulterated foods, TZOB President Şemsi Bayraktar said, “Increasing prices spike the number of counterfeit and adulterated products in the market. Imitation and adulteration are used to make more profit by keeping the retail price of olive oil low. It is not possible for our consumers to detect this fraud and dishonesty.”
Şemsi Bayraktar, President of the Union of Turkish Agricultural Chambers (TZOB), made a press statement regarding the increasing number of imitation and adulteration in olive oil.
“Olive oil is one of the most counterfeited and adulterated foods. Increasing prices trigger the number of counterfeit and adulterated products in the market. The problem of adulteration exists not only in our country but also in all countries where olive oil is produced and traded. Imitation and adulteration are used to make more profit by keeping the retail price of olive oil low,” he stated.
“However, It is not possible for our consumers to detect this fraud and forgery. Such counterfeit and adulterated products are definitely understood by laboratory tests,” he added.
“It is necessary to protect the product manufactured by our producers with huge difficulties and to oppose all kinds of cheating and fraud. The product of our farmers should not enter our tables as ‘oil with unknown content'”, he concluded…
