“At this rate, it seems that salmon exports will overtake hazelnuts”

Ahmet Hamdi Gürdoğan, Vice President of the Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association (DKİB), stated that salmon export figures compete with hazelnut export figures.

“Salmon has become a new alternative product to hazelnut in the Eastern Black Sea Region. Salmon started to compete with hazelnut in terms of income. At this rate, it seems that it will overtake hazelnut. There are problems in salmon exports, especially in storage. In terms of licensed warehousing, we, as the Eastern Black Sea Region Exporters’ Association, have made a study on this issue and presented it to the relevant ministries,” he said.

Therefore, we are determined to implement the example of licensed warehousing in our region, where even small cooperatives and producers can put their fish, in order to increase the value of our product continuously, not low. For this, we especially expect politicians to support us. In order for salmon exports to exceed hazelnut figures in the future, we need to develop the sub-industry,” he added…
