Turkey provided 1 million 189 thousand dollars of foreign exchange from black cumin by exporting 50 countries in 2019.
With this performance, an all-time record was broken in black cumin exports.
Black cumin exports in 7 months of the year increased by 219 percent compared to the same period of 2019, from 385 thousand dollars to 1 million 227 thousand dollars.
The USA took the first place in the export of black cumin with 582 thousand dollars. Exports to this country in the January-July period increased by 125 percent compared to the same period last year.
Germany took the second place with 195 thousand dollars, followed by France with 54 thousand dollars.
Planting area increases in Uşak province…
In Uşak region, which has an important place in the production of black cumin, farmers have started to show more interest in this product in recent years. Within the scope of the project of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry for “Narrowing the fallow lands”, with the support of the Uşak Governorship Special Provincial Administration, distributing approximately 1 tonne of black cumin seeds to farmers in 2015 played a role in increasing the cultivation of this product.
Uşak Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, Meadow Pasture and Forage Plants Branch Manager Çayhan Şentürk said that the black cumin cultivation, which started in an area of 800 decares, reached 4 thousand 500 decares.
