Dairy producers want a PPI increase for raw milk support!
Deputy Chairman of the Central Union of Turkiye Milk Producers, Ali İhsan Gezgin, said that raw milk support should be at least 1 TL, taking into account the producer price index (PPI), in order to ensure sustainability in production.
Ali İhsan Gezgin, who is also the Chairperson of Milas Dairy Association, noted that milk prices are not enough for the producer, but that with the increase of inflation pressure, 1 litre of milk can see 20 TL on the market shelves.
Gezgin said, “Since the producer could not earn, the heifers we imported for 3,100 Euros in 2020 could not be kept as breeders and had to be sent to slaughter. This is a great loss of national wealth. Unless the subsidies are increased, livestock will not be able to get out of this cycle that happens every few years.”
“The fact that the raw milk price is 4.70 TL does not cover the costs, but if it is increased a little more, the consumer will not be able to buy milk. Who will we produce milk for? Let’s reduce the input costs, let’s enhance the support,” he added…
