Turkish spice exporters, the world leader in the production and export of oregano and laurel, started 2024 with an increase of 51 percent. The spice sector ramped up its exports from 56 million dollars to 86 million dollars in the January-February period. Aegean exporters realised 54 million dollars of this amount. Spice exports reached 24 thousand tonnes with a hike of 31 percent in the first two months on quantity basis.
Spice exporters under the roof of Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EIB) in general, are under the Aegean Furniture, Paper and Forestry Products Exporters’ Association along with Aegean Cereals, Pulses and Oil Seeds Exporters’ Association.
Two Turquality Projects to boost spice exports…
Ali Fuat Gürle, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Aegean Furniture, Paper and Forestry Products Exporters’ Association, said that they have been carrying out the TURQUALITY Project for 6 years by the Aegean Exporters’ Associations to raise the awareness and export of Turkish food products in the US market.
“One of the most important pillars of this project was the promotion of Turkish spices. Now, our Turquality Project named ‘Turkish Herbal Tea’, which is planned to be carried out in partnership with our Association and Mediterranean Furniture, Paper and Forestry Products Exporters’ Association, has been approved by the Ministry of Trade,” Gürle said.
“With the project, we aim to carry out promotional activities in a 4-year period between 2023-2026 and to ensure growth in exports by promoting products such as oregano, sage, laurel, rosemary, liquorice root with supported items,” Gürle added…
“We plan to promote health-themed Turkish medicinal and aromatic plants in target markets, with the USA and Germany being the primary target markets, with a special focus on herbal tea,” Gürle concluded…
