General Manager of Turkish Grain Board (TMO) Ahmet Güldal, said that the breeding works carried out in seed highly contributed to farmers and production.
“The legal regulations and supports provided have been very effective, but the biggest effect is in breeding studies. Then the efforts of our colleagues whose labour are also very effective. Then, the seed industrialists who took, developed, multiplied, industrialised and commercialised those seeds achieved this. Our producers used these seeds on their own lands. Subsequently, our country has reached a very valuable point in seed production, and we have reached ambitious positions in terms of yield,” he said.
“There is a need for high-yielding seeds in barren areas”
Pointing out that more than 70 per cent of Türkiye’s cultivation area is barren, Güldal noted, “Breeding works carried out in this direction are very important. Besides, the yield is high in plantings in wetlands and we expect this to be the case in drylands as well.”
Indicating ting that the level of developments in the seed sector in Türkiye is satisfactory, Güldal added, “Successful works, especially exports, have been achieved with the works carried out under the coordination of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.”
